"How to Deliver a Great TED talk" is a
complete public speaking system for delivering highly effective presentations and speeches.

If you’ve watched TED videos before, you’ve no doubt been inspired and electrified by speeches by figures such as Sir Ken Robinson, Jill Bolte Taylor, Simon Sinek and Dan Pink.

What makes these TED talks so inspiring?

What is the secret formula for creating a successful TED talk?

And how can you use this formula to deliver your own powerful TED talk (or any other presentation or speech, for that matter)?

OVER 100 SUPER SPECIFIC TIPS TO HELP YOU MASTER THE ART OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

If you follow the guidelines and tools in this book, I guarantee that
your audience will have no choice but to be wrapped up in your speeches and presentations.

BASED ON EXTENSIVE ANALYSIS OF THE BEST TED TALKS

I studied more than 200 of the most inspiring TED talks, analyzed each one line by line and discovered the common elements that make them successful.

This book is the result of my intensive research. In it, you’ll discover tools that will help make you twice the speaker you are today in half the time.

This book is also based on the work of bestselling authors Chip and Dan Heath. In their groundbreaking book,
Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath revealed six simple principles for creating memorable messages.

In this book, I have taken Chip and Dan’s work and applied it to creating powerfully persuasive presentations. I use their SUCCESS framework and draw on examples from TED talks to show how the success principles can be applied to public speaking.

More specifically, you will learn how to:

Craft a repeatable power phrase

• Utlize the ABC-C speech structure for powerful presentations

Use rhetorical devices to spice up your speech

• Create an attention-grabbing opening

Build the body of your presentation/speech

• Craft a compelling closing

Use statistics to grab attention

• Create a wow-moment

Bring your characters to life

• Use analogies, metaphors and similes

Turn your stories into mental movies

• Build your credibility with the speech introduction

Add internal credibility to your presentation

• Build an emotional connection with your audience

Use compelling visuals

• Use PowerPoint the right way

Body language secrets of confident speakers

• Arouse your audience's curiosity

Use Sir Ken Robinson and Dan Pink's techniques for adding humor to a speech

• Use rhetorical questions to hook your audience into your presentation

Use the five C's of storytelling to create spell-binding stories

• Deliver dynamic TED talk (or any other presentation or speech)

Whether you are scheduled to deliver a TED talk, a business presentation or a motivational or inspiring speech, this book will teach you the techniques used by some of the world's most powerful public speakers.

About the Author

Hi, I'm Akash, and I'm an author and a professional speaker. Over the past five years, I've had the privilege of training thousands of people worldwide, from bankers in Hong Kong to yoga teachers in Thailand to government officials in Dubai. As a speaker, I've been ranked one of the top speakers in Asia-Pacific. However, just five years ago, I was shy, introverted and lacked confidence. That all changed when I began studying the art of public speaking, peak performance and persuasion. The tools and techniques I learned transformed my life, and these are the same techniques I teach in my books and workshops. Check out my book, "How to Deliver a Great TED Talk". The book is based on my study of over 200 of the best TED talks and contains the best tools and tips on how you too can deliver a great TED talk (or any other speech or presentation!)

Prior to reading this book, I was already a decent (but not necessarily good) presenter. Having had been forced to develop somewhat of a comfort with crowds because of my work, I was at least mostly at ease in front of people. What I learned from this book was that my fundamental speaking skills were not my shortfall (that is, what was keeping me from being a more effective speaker), but rather the structure of my presentations. After putting what I gleaned from this book into practice, not only did the reactions I received drastically improve, but I also developed a solid sense for what makes an enjoyable (and instructive) presentation. Presentations become exciting for the speaker when they stop being a task, and instead become a way to communicate meaningful concepts. This book will help you provide value through your presentations.

There are some great tips in this book about techniques to use for giving effective and engaging presentations. I've found them helpful and have actually started using many of the suggestions.

The bad news about this book: it is very poorly edited. At the end of each chapter, there is a summary of the sections as a short prompt, I think it was the end of the first chapter, but the summary didn't even include all of the topics. In another chapter, the summary was in a completely different order than how it was presented. In other places there were duplicate words/phrases and other formatting issues. It felt hastily thrown together. How were these glaring issues missed?

It is really well organized, and there are many new things to think about as you build a great talk. I also bought one for one of our pastors who is just beginning his public speaking career.

As the bad reviews say, yes, this book is poorly edited. Spelling, grammar, table of contents mistakes, etc. However, WHO CARES!!! (Not me!) - because the content is excellent.

I had to create a keynote address for a group of about 500, and this book was invaluable. I've presented MANY times over the years, but had never done a talk quite like this one. The details for this particular presentation are not relevant... the main thing is that I had to pull out all the stops to make this a stellar talk, right from the heart, it had to be engrossing and it had to touch people's hearts.

I created the outline of my talk while working my way through the book. It took me a few days, and then I practiced for many months. I just gave the talk yesterday and am VERY happy to report that it went great. I could not have done as good a job if I hadn't had this book.

After the talk, over a dozen people came up to me in tears, thanking me for my presentation, saying how engrossed they were, and how it made them reflect on their own lives.

Ignore the reviews that complain about the need for edits. Yes, it needs to be edited, but not getting this book because of its editing needs is equal to cutting off your nose to spite your face. You will be better off with this book than without it.

As a long -time Toastmaster, I wasn't sure how much "new information" I would obtain by reading this book. I am grateful that I gave it a chance. I recently began considering participating in something like TED, but I know I need something extra to help me through the process. The tips given, although common sense to someone who speaks often, may significantly help someone who needs to figure out how to effectively communicate his thoughts to a group of people. I found some nuggets and some takeaways that I can use to polish my next speech. I'll definitely use this book as an additional resource for my speeches.

There's nothing surprising, here, but the bits about how to use story were very helpful, in constructing a recent talk. I speak somewhat regularly to groups of 200-500, and found that I had such a good coach, that I do most of what's here. It did help me categorize some of the technique that I've seen and put into practice, and It gave me a set of specific ways to evaluate what I am doing, as I create a persuasive talk - from content, to rhetoric, to delivery. Highly recommended - despite the fact that the chapter titles, and table of contents paginations are not accurate (looks embarrassingly like a copy-paste error on the editor's/publisher's part). Great tool to help you comprehensively examine your preparation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Step by Step Guide to Quality Presentation

A very well written guidebook for any presentation with cited examples and TED Talks link within the text. I liked how lucidly the author has presented a book for a novice like me. I have not yet completed reading it but have been through first 120 pages and already am drafting 3 talks on the suggested framework. Gives tips on what to provide and what to avoid. I wish if the author had put up some links to his own talks that we could watch alongwith.
